MAGICIAN: The life of the fabulous Harry Houdini, which has intrigued movie makers before, is back in the production news again. This time Film Producers, Inc., a new independent outfit, is the interested party and has obtained screen rights from the estate of the late Mrs. Houdini as well as to the authorized biography of the magician, written by Harold Kellock. The people behind Film Producers are Joseph Raboff, a former operator of New York drug stores; Earl Cohen, a Hollywood real estate operator, and Endre Bohem, erstwhile Paramount producer.
Title of the projected film, slated to go before the cameras in October, is The Life Story of Harry Houdini. While no casting has been done as yet, both John Garfield and Lee Cobb have been approached about playing the title role. This much is definite: Stephen Longstreet, novelist and scen-artist [sic], has written the script and Mr. Bohem now is writing into it some additional material.
